Kansas City Royals, is one of the most popular mlb teams with a magnificent career of nearly 3,154 hits made by a renowned player George Brett, who ranks first in the Royal's history and top 20 in the overall Major League history. In the year of 2003, the Royals bonded with slugger Juan Gonzalez and several other veterans in order to boost the their team to a division title. However, Gonzalez was hurt initially which proved to be a failure for the team. This resulted the team to slid to a franchise-record of 104 losses. This event was followed by the trading expedition of one of the start players of the team, Carlos Beltran to Houston by the end of June.
The positive side of the whole scenario was that pitcher Zack Greinke and center fielder David DeJesus, the one who was added in replacement for Beltran played some good seasons. On the contrary, the team made a 26-5 win over Detroit in which Joe Randa made six hits including six runs. He was one of the first AL player who made a history by doing so. The team is well recognized for its magnificent ballparks, which was opened as Royals Stadium on April 10,1973. Over here, many games were played including the seven World Series tilts in the years 1980 and 1985.
However, the facility was re-named in the honor of Ewing M. Kauffmann in a function organized at the stadium in the year of 1993, on July 2. Yet another attraction was added to the stadium in the year 1990, which was a state-of-the-art Sony Jumbo Tron colored video display board which was installed on the left field hillside. With the measurement of 30 by 40 feet, it is considered to be one of the biggest video boards in the U.S.
2006 Season Preview:
As far as year 2005 was concerned, it did not prove to be promising for the team because of the very fact that Kansas could just win 56 games. This made them a weak team. Less concentration was paid to their pitching stats. But, 2006 sees some fresh improvements in the team as they work upon their weaknesses. It is said that the Royals have also signed some relevant veterans which also included the ones with post season experience. This year is expected to be more competitive as compared to the previous years. But, the team is likely to take a step back for the current title in AL Central this season, especially keeping three most strong competitors aside such as Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins.
