Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a major tragedy as Pedro Guerrero went for a surgery for his ruptured tendon below his left knee. This was a huge loss for the National League Western Division. Guerrero is considered as one of the best players of the team who made 33 homers and batted .320 before getting injured a day back in the Dodgers' final exhibition game in Vero Beach, FL. The player did not come in to action for four months, but finally came into the scene on July 30. Because of the injury he missed 31 games which effected his ability to hit.
However, the Dodgers completed their fifth in the West with an amazing record of 73-89.

On April 4, 1997, Mike Piazza reached the base in eight continuous plate appearances. This happened after going 3-for-3 including two walks in the Dodgers' 5-3 victory against Pirates at the Dodger Stadium. Moreover, the Brooklyn's debut into the National League started in 1890 when the team won a great championship with a 86-43 record. This happened for the first time out of the 21 National League pennants that Dodgers would win during the next 100 years.

In 1888, nearly seven of the players got married during the same year. Therefore, the "Bridegrooms" was so much linked with the manager William "Gruner" McGunnigle's 1890 ballclub. The success of the Bridegrooms effected the team tremendously, and there was a huge replacement of the managers. The line-up included skippers John Montgomery Ward (1891-92). Dave Foutz (1893-96), William Barnie (1897-98), Mike Griffin (1898), Charles H. Ebbets (1898) and Ned Hanlon (1899-1905).

2006 Season Preview:

The year 2006 does show the Dodgers as one of the most influential teams. There are bright possibilities of them to win NL West. The possibilities are more because Arizona shows poor pitches, Colorado seems to be just average in terms of playing. Further more, yet another contenders San Diego Padres, who were the winners of the division in the last season with an outstanding record of 82-80, does not have adequate hitters to make their chances bright.

However, Los Angeles' would be beneficial for the team to play energetically opposite several teams in its own division. It is said that The Dodgers end the season with three-game sets opposite Pittsburgh (at home), Arizona (at home), Colorado (on the road) and San Francisco (on the road). These are the teams which finished below .500 in the previous year.
