In March 26, 1976, the American League votes expand to Toronto. The team was awarded for the franchise to the group which included Imperial Trust, Ltd, Labatt's Breweries, and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce..followed by the franchise fee of $7 million (US) which was determined . Later in that year, the directors selected the "Blue Jays" from more than 4,000 names and 30,000 entries in a "Name the Team"contest. However, on October 22, Blue Jays add first player in replacement of the catcher Phil Roof from the Chicago White Sox.

The consecutive year brought certain developments in the team as well. On March 11, 1977, Blue Jays defeated New York Mets by 3-1 at Dunedin and Florida, during their first training game. Further more, the team made their debut appearance on as the Major League baseball team in Toronto. A team member Doug Ault became fan favorite after hitting two home runs, when the Blue Jays made a 9-5 victory over Chicago White Sox., followed by a yet another defeat on August 9, over Minnesota Twins with 6-2 victory.

In the year 1981, Damaso Garcia played magnificently and scored 375 in the second half of the game. But, later during that time period, he broke his wrist which eventually resulted as a great loss to the team. However, other members which were present during that time were Jesse Barfield and George Bell, who played on a regular basis with Lloyd Moseby in the outfield. In October 7, Bobby Mattick, yet another member of the team resigned from his post of Field Manager and became Executive Co-Ordinator in the Baseball Operations. As the season of 1982 approached, Bobby Cox, former Atlanta Barves Manager was designated as the team's new manager. This was not the only thing happening in the team, lots of incidences took place during that era. On November 24, the President & Chief Officer , Peter Bavasi resigned from the team.

2006 Season Preview:

The year 2006 would be a challenging year for the Blue Jays as the projected line up for the team is Russ Adams (SS), Frank Cattalanotto (LF), Vernon Wells (CF), Troy Glaus (3B), Lyle Overbay (1B), Shea Hillenbrand (DH), Bengie Molina (C), Alexis Rios (RF), Aaron Hill (2B). However, the team came up with most of their offseason needs, still there is a bright chance for them to get over some of the important teams such as, Red Sox and Yankees. Moreover, Frasor and Speier would be pitching the seventh and eight innings. Toronto has made its mark by completing 500 since the last five years. Therefore, this should be one of the chance to solidify their ranking.
