The history of the Bulls is one of exemplary players and historic games but it is also the story of slumps and falls and pulling off some risky maneuvers in order to breathe new life into the team. The Bulls were not among the teams to watch in the seventies- they were extremely competitive but they were never able to pull off any championship victories. Their tactics were built around a tough defense line up which ultimately led them to the bottom of the barrel in the eighties. Despite a tactical change to a more offense-driven play the Bulls seemed to be going nowhere fast and needed to do some quick thinking to inject new blood into the team.
New blood came in the form of Michael Jordan, arguably the best basketball player in the world. It was the 83-84 season and new management with General Manager Jerry Krause at the helm decided to rethink the game plan, placing Jordan as the focal point. Jordan began breaking a number of records in his rookie season, prompting the legendary Larry Bird to call him God in the disguise of Michael Jordan.
Naturally the fortunes of the team began to turn around. With a number of other exemplary players like Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman, the Bulls began to take the NBA by storm, breaking records and scoring championship victories with ease. In the 92-93 season, the Bulls clocked their first three-peat, something no team had done since the Celtics in the sixties. The Bulls continued a dream run, weathering a retirement and return from Jordan until 1998, when it looked like the Bulls were getting a little old.
Krause embarked on a drastic change after witnessing some rusty performances from the Bulls. What followed was five difficult years of play for the Bulls as they had a whole new line up and a new coach. it looked like the Bulls might not find their lost glory but recent plays in the 2005-2006 season have shown a marked improvement in the Bulls' play and the team looks poised to take some championships in the future.
