Get your tickets to catch some maverick action on center court with tickets to see the Dallas Mavericks live in action. A hard fighting team that has had its share of ups and downs, the Mavericks has always displayed a stellar brand of playing that has set them apart from other teams. Today they are poised to grab the championships in a true Texas style and you just can't afford to miss it!
The Mavericks were born in 1979 when a bid was placed to bring an NBA franchise to Dallas, since they had lost their former team to San Antonio. The team officially entered the NBA in 1980 and Dick Motta was hired as coach to immediately whip the team into shape. Despite a remarkable debut game where the Mavericks pounded the Spurs, the team was unable to rake in a decent season and finished with a losing record.
However the Mavericks were making some important player acquisitions at the time that would bear fruit later on. By the '82-'83 season the Mavericks had improved dramatically and had even made it to the playoffs. Though they had yet to post a winning season, the team was already seen as one with immense potential. In the following season, the team chalked up their first winning season and another playoff entry.
During this time, the Mavericks kept butting heads with the Lakers. Despite being a relatively new club, the team managed to hold their own to a certain extent with the Lakers and fans began to hope that overcoming L.A. might not be so impossible after all. The team chalked up their best season ever in '86-'87 after which they performed dismally in the playoffs. Motta resigned and after an initial fall, the Mavericks were able to pick themselves up and have another successful season.
Things began to go wrong when a series of trades, injuries and suspensions dogged the team in '88-'89. The Mavericks dipped to an all time low, clocking in a losing season and missing the playoffs. The team was dogged by suspensions for Roy Tarpley who kept getting pulled up for drug violations and driving under the influence. Things just went from bad to worse in the nineties and by 1992 the team was being rebuilt. The roster of new players was young and could not find their footing and it looked like the Mavericks would be setting an all-time NBA record for worst season.
Things turned around when Motta was brought back and 'The 3 Js' entered the team, bringing the Mavericks to the biggest improvement in franchise history. The team continued to improve in the new millennium as the Mavericks played some of their best basketball ever. In 2006 the team made it to the finals for the very first time.
