The Warriors were founded in 1946 and began their basketball career as the Philadelphia Warriors as part of the BAA. The team did well, winning the championships during the league's inaugural year. Founded by Eddie Gottlieb, the Warriors are one of the oldest teams on the NBA circuit and one of the three original BAA teams in the NBA, along with the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics.

In what would prove to be a trend with the Warriors throughout their career, the team drafted one of basketball's major superstars Wilt Chamberlain in 1959 who began a dream run of shattering record after record in the NBA. He single-handedly chalked up a hundred points during a game against the Knicks in 1962, a record that may never be broken. That same year, the team would be shifted to San Francisco.

The team performed well in San Francisco, managing to win the Western Division title though they couldn't make it in the finals. In 1966, the team tried to schedule more home games and during the '70-'71 season the team officially became the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors played a decent game of ball but nobody expected them to walk away with the championships any time soon. During the '74-'75 season the feeling was no different- in fact, the Coliseum Arena had scheduled other events during the NBA games but the Warriors surprised everyone by sweeping the Washington Bullets and taking the title.

Another high point in the career of the team occurred during the late eighties and early nineties when a smoking hot trio known as Run T-M-C began chalking up points for the Warriors. But things would dip in the '93-'94 season after some surprise trades and a change in ownership, the effects of which were a 13 year streak that has seen them absent from the playoffs. The team would start rebuilding in around 2004 with the addition of a number of new players, all of whom are promising young talents. The Warriors already started off the 2005-2006 season with a winning percentage and hope to maintain that positive mode well into the future.
