Pace yourself and get ready for some mind-blowing basketball action with tickets to see the Indiana Pacers turn up the heat on center court. The Pacers have a long tradition of playing basketball in a big way and despite a few grey spots in its past, the Pacers are largely recognized as one of the most promising teams in the NBA today.
The Indiana Pacers began their run in 1967 as part of the American Basketball Association and was the most successful team on that circuit. When the ABA was dissolved, the Pacers were invited to join the NBA but they could not find the same victorious footing they had in the ABA. The team struggled to keep their footing but matters were not helped with the trading of some of their best players- things hit an all-time low for the team when they chalked up their worst season record in '82-'83 with just 20 wins and 62 losses.
Things changed for the Pacers with the arrival of Reggie Miller in 1987. Though the Pacers played very badly during the '88-'89 season, Miller was distinguishing himself as a player with great promise. For the next few years, the Pacers would play a hiccoughing round of basketball, lurching from great plays to disappointing losses.
Things changed for the Pacers in a positive way in the 93-'94 season when the team blew away a number of big name teams to enter the '94 Eastern Conference finals. With a 52 wins and 30 losses record, the team looked set to make it big but the Pacers suffered a setback when Miller was injured and more trade-offs happened.
A new Pacers team was built in the new millennium and a new era for the team was officially ushered in with the 2003 season under a new line up and fresh talent. However, things were markedly marred for the Pacers with the infamous basketbrawl that occurred during one of their games with the Pistons in 2004, during which a number of Pacer players were suspended. Despite this setback, the team was able to make it to the playoffs but could not clinch a win. In a poignant game, Miller would play his last NBA game in 2005 with no championship wins to his name- he had spent his entire career with the Pacers.
In another spate of Pacers drama, one of their all-star players Ron Artest publicly stated that the team would be better off without him, which led to an NBA fine and an ultimate trade. Despite these setbacks, the team has managed to clinch a promising spot for itself already and is braced to be the next big thing on the NBA courts.
