If you are looking for tickets to see a hard-hitting basketball team with some stellar players take the court, then you want tickets to see the Miami Heat live in action. These guys not only guarantee some world class basketball action, they are also an extremely spirited team of players, and the blood often flows fast and furious when they are up against their rivals the New York Knicks.
The Miami Heat entered the NBA in 1988 along with a number of other teams that were added in an NBA expansion. The Heat did not distinguish themselves initially- the team was essentially a collection of young players and floaters, which resulted in dismal performances, culminating in an NBA record of being the only team to lose their first seventeen games. Added to this was the fact that the team was physically far away from all of their opponents, which resulted in long road trips which ultimately took their toll on the players.
It would be a while before the Heat would be able to find their groove but in the meantime, the team was able to acquire some important young players that would prove to be assets later on. The Heat struggled to move forward, improving with each game but only marginally. By 1990, the team was very much at the bottom of the pile. The following year saw a change in management which led to some smart decisions with regard to trading players- the Heat signed on young Steve Smith who would go on to be a member of the NBA All-Star Dream Team. More importantly, Smith was joining the ranks of a team that had matured considerably since their early days and the maturity was seen in their improved playing.
Under a new coach Riley, the team underwent some more shuffling which lead to a new and improved Heat line up. This phase also marked a dramatic time in the rivalry that existed between the Heat and the Knicks- this rivalry hit new highs during the '97-'98 season when Knicks coach Gundy was forced to grab a player by the legs during a game in order to stop a confrontation. Things changed again for the Heat when the invincible Shaquille O'Neal joined its ranks in 2004- though a number of players were held back due to injuries, the Heat did remarkably well, clocking in their second best record in the team's history.
One of the criticisms that continue to dog the team is the fact that despite their impressive record, they have not been able to hold their own against any top caliber teams, something that the Heat are continuing to work hard to change.
