It was only during the '83-'84 season that the Nets began to show any improvement. A number of new players had been added to the fray, giving the Nets a much needed booster shot in the arm.

The Nets seemed to be steadily on the rise and they entered the nineties with another set of incredibly promising players that formed a strong and solid core for the team. But the loss of a number of players and more coaching changes took their toll- by the middle of the decade the team seemed to be slipping again. To add to their problems, the Nets found themselves facing a serious image problem as a selfish and immature team that couldn't seem to cut it- in fact many of the players on the team roster at the time were seen to epitomize the selfish NBA player.

Things needed to change and fast- in 2000, under new management, the Nets underwent some dramatic trades and reshuffles, resulting in the best team the Nets had ever had. They finished the season clocking in 52 wins and just 30 losses. The Nets played some truly memorable games and pulled off some amazing victories, giving teams like the Celtics a real run for their money.
