Come get your tickets to see a true display of basketball magic when the Orlando Magic weaves a spell over you from center court. The Magic has been home to some star players and has always had a tendency to zoom up, just when they seemed to have touched the bottom.

The Magic were brought into the NBA circuit in 1989 and immediately distinguished themselves by playing a hard-fought game with the New Jersey Nets. This reputation of being a hard-fighting team under any and all circumstances would always stay with the team. In 1990, the Magic was seen as the most improved team in the NBA and the future looked bright. However things began to dip by 1992, when the Magic raked in a disappointing season, hampered by injuries and losing streaks.

And then Shaq happened- during the 1992 draft, the Magic brought in a young powerhouse called Shaquille O'Neal who would help transform the team. The Magic were on the rise again with O'Neal distinguishing himself as a star player and the team making it to the playoffs. Soon a number of talented players were also added to the roster, including Brian Hill and Anfernee Hardaway. Hardaway and O'Neal were a sizzling combination that many top teams found too hot to handle- the Magic chalked up their first 50-wins season, entered the playoffs and were seeded second in the Eastern Conference.

The dream run of the Magic came to a painful end when O'Neal left the team to join the Lakers. Hardaway helped the team compile a satisfactory season record but he could not single-handedly save the team. Accordingly, new blood was brought into the roster and the Magic seemed poised once again for take-off. In 1999, a new coach was brought in to handle a Magic team that had by then lost many of its strongest players and was essentially a batch of young, inexperienced players. The Magic adopted the Heart and Hustle tactic which demanded 110% hard work from all players.

The following year, the Magic drafted a young player called McGrady, who would prove to be initially a star talent for the team. The team managed to chalk up a winning season and things seemed to be on the rise again but by the 2003-2004 season, things were moving down again. McGrady was traded since he was seen to be slacking off and not happy with being on the team. Some new players were added to the roster and fans waited with bated breath the see how the new set up would do.

The result was sporadic- the Magic played spectacularly against some heavyweight teams but fell to lesser known ones. Things looked lean when a number of their best players failed to deliver on account of injuries but the Magic have now acquired a core set of new players that are looking very promising for the Magic today.
