Following this was the loss of a promising young player in a plane crash. The Suns were off the courts till about 1987 when things took a turn for the better. With a number of prize trades, the Suns found themselves on the winning side of a game against the Lakers- it looked like the Suns were going to shine again.

Things got much better in the nineties when a number of major changes took place in the line-up, the most popular being the addition to megastar Charles Barkley to the team. Many feel that it was his presence that made the Suns a team that people noticed and with a sizzling band of young talent, the Suns were soon storming into their second finals. Even though the Suns lost to the Bulls in that game, the match was such a hard-fought one and many Suns fans took to the streets in celebration of such a great game of basketball.

Things stayed high in 1995 when the team clinched the Pacific division title but spiraled downward after the unpopular trading of one of the Suns' favorite players, Dan Majerle. Matters were not helped when tensions between Barkley and Colangelo grew, resulting in the trading of Barkley. After a terrible '96-'97 season, a brand new line up went on an eleven game winning streak and the team continued to do well into the new millennium.By the 2004-2005 season, the Suns were one of the top teams in the NBA, with an amazing turnaround that helped them snag the Pacific Division title yet again. With a crackling team and loads of talent, the Suns are on the brink of something really big.
