It's time to kick into gear with tickets to see some of the hottest basketball action to ever hit the courts- get your tickets to see the San Antonio Spurs hustle and burn things up with their signature style of high velocity, winning basketball. The Spurs have a history of being consistently high value, playing worthy games of basketball even when they are at their worst.

The Spurs began hitting the courts as part of the ABA under the moniker the Dallas Chaparrals in 1967. Despite being a moderately good team, the Spurs had a very poor fan following and enthusiasm for the game was low. In 1970 it was decided to change the name from Dallas to Texas in order to give the team a more regional appeal but this ploy did not work. After missing the playoffs, the team was bought by a group of San Antonio businessmen who relocated them and changed their name to the Spurs. The Spurs quickly proved themselves to be one of the top teams in the ABA and in 1976 when the ABA folded, the Spurs were one of the teams that was invited to join the NBA.

Immediately the Spurs placed themselves as a worthy team- in their first year they tied for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and would win five division titles over the next seven years. Another strong factor would be that the Spurs would be a perennial contender in the playoffs.

The eighties were marked by a number of fluctuations- they initially maintained their steady run of winning seasons but after one of their key players was traded, the Spurs took a bit of a plunge. They began to chalk up a steady stream of losing seasons which began to show in poor audience attendance. '88-'89 would prove to be their worst season but things were beginning to change with the introduction of Larry Brown as coach and full ownership under Red McCombs. By 1990, the Spurs had almost turned their losing streak around completely.

The new decade was started on with a great amount of enthusiasm- the Spurs were confident of at least reaching the playoffs, if not snagging a championship win. As predicted, the Spurs consistently made it to the playoffs but a number of head coach changes were instituted to push the team even further. Unfortunately the Spurs began to slip again by 1995 and they wound up with their worst season record ever the following year.

But the Spurs never stay down for long- the team came charging back in 1999 and snatched their very first championship victory and followed it up in the '02-'03 season and again in 2005.
