Come see how basketball is played Seattle style with tickets to see the Seattle SuperSonics live on the courts! The Sonics play some mean basketball and are known for putting up a lively game- a true basketball fan just can't afford to miss seeing the Sonics play. The Sonics have the distinction of being the first professional sports franchise in Seattle. Formed in 1967, the Sonics were a team that had a very strong all-round performance, thanks to the presence of a number of all-star players like Lenny Wilkens, Al Tucker and Bob Rule. One of the defining factors of the Sonics would be the tendency of the team to lean completely on particular star players or strong coaches. These charismatic leaders always brought out the best in the team but once they disappeared, the playing tenacity of the Sonics disappeared too. This would be first witnessed in the presence of Wilkens, who carved a niche for himself both as a star player and a coach.

With Wilkens and a number of other good players, the Sonics would clock in their first winning season in 1972 and the team seemed poised for a chance at the playoffs. However a number of injuries kept most of their good players off the courts- to add to these dire straits was the unpopular trade of Wilkens. Without him, the team quickly slipped to another losing season. In 1975, a new coach Bill Russell was called in and a number of new players were added to the roster- the result was a marked improvement in performance and the Sonics made the playoffs for two years.

Russell would leave the team during the '76-'77 season and accordingly performance dipped. This was only remedied when Wilkens was brought back to the team- in a truly incredible turn around of events, the Sonics pulled off a championship victory a few years later and the roster was seen to be made up of some of the best talent in the NBA.

In the eighties the Sonics managed to place respectably in the division finals but the loss of two of their strongest star players was reflected in a dip in performance. In 1983, the team was sold and yet again, the Sonics found it difficult to maintain its footing. One of their biggest losses during that same period was a consistent veteran player Fred Brown, followed by the loss of Wilkens and Jack Sikma.

A new team was born out of the ashes of the old and the Sonics showed immense promise in the nineties, clocking in a franchise best record and an NBA record. But by the new millennium, more trade-offs and coaching shifts saw another dip in the performance of the team.Make sure you're there when the Sonics regain lost ground- get to your online ticket vendor today and order your tickets to see the Seattle SuperSonics play live!
