Get your groove on with one of the jazziest basketball teams in the NBA- come get your tickets to watch the Utah Jazz shake, rattle and roll on a court near you! Despite having a name that is almost an oxymoron, the Jazz have clearly shown that they have exactly what it takes when it comes to professional basketball.
The Jazz began life as the New Orleans Jazz in 1974. At the time, the Jazz had nothing to sing about and after being dogged by financial difficulties and poor performances (the team had lost five seasons in a row) the team was shifted to Salt Lake City in 1979. Despite the fact that Utah had no Jazz culture to speak of, it was decided that the name Jazz would be retained.
During the eighties, the Jazz had a bleak record and were consistent bottom-of-the-barrel contenders. However, a number of key trades and shuffles were made at this time and the result of these trades would only be felt later on. It would only be in the '83-'84 season that the Jazz would finally pull up their first winning season but that was not all- they also won the division title, made it to the playoffs and kicked off a winning streak of sorts that would culminate in twenty consecutive playoff appearances.

From 1986 onwards, the Jazz began to carve a niche for itself as a respectable team to contend with. Despite their stellar playing, the team could not advance to the finals, despite posting their first ever 50 winning season. This close-but-no-cigar run would continue into the nineties, with the team reaching the conference finals three times. By the '96-'97 season, the Jazz had their best team yet and after clocking in their best record ever, the team finally advanced to the finals.
Though they didn't win, the Jazz was very happy with their performance and made no significant changes to the playing roster. But by the '01-'02 season, the signs of wear where beginning to show on a team that was getting old. In the following season they would lose both Stockton and Malone, ending an era of basketball. Though the Jazz was expected to be a weak team, they proved their worth with a stunning 15 game improvement in 2005.
