It's time to witness some center court magic with tickets to see the Washington Wizards play live and direct from center court. The Wizards have a history of name changes and venue changes but one thing has remained steady- a history of good basketball, no matter where they played from.
The Wizards started out as the Chicago Packers in 1961 and would be known as the Zephyrs and then the Bullets when the team shifted base to Baltimore. The Wizards started off with a promising line up that included to star players, Monroe and Unseld. With these two at the helm, the team would become a strong contender for the playoffs, though they would not snag a championship title.
The team was then shifted the Washington, where the name was changed from Capitol Bullets to Washington Bullets. It would be during the '77-'78 season that the Bullets would really shine. With a 44 wins and 38 losses record, they were not in prime position for a championship title but the coach at that time, Dick Motta would use the phrase 'It ain't over till the fat lady sings'- this would become a catchphrase for the Bullets and would be heard often as the Bullets went storming into the playoffs. The Bullets would win the championship, the first professional sports win for Washington in 36 years.
During the eighties the Bullets did not play spectacularly but managed to pull off some surprises and to make a mark with a great blocker, who broke a few records but could not help the team advance to the finals. By the nineties, the team felt they needed an image change. The Bullets were the worst when it came to selling team merchandise and paraphernalia and it was decided to change the name as the moniker Bullets was seen to be too violent.
In 1999, Michael Jordan became the team president and began to take an active role in the team's development. At the start of the new millennium, Jordan announced that he was coming out of retirement to play for the Wizards- he claimed he was returning because of his love for the game but it could not be denied that he helped improve the game of the Wizards dramatically. After being kept out for a while due to an injury, Jordan came back during the 2002-2003 season to try and help a team that was being marred by uninspired playing. Jordan could do nothing and the next season he was sacked. The Wizards could not maintain the same standard of playing without him and the season raked in a dismal performance.
Recently the Wizards have been doing very well, thanks to a set of talented players known as the Big Three that have been making a winning impression on the courts.
