With the game of basketball becoming hugely popular with women, teams like Charlotte Sting are gaining huge popularity. The Charlotte Sting is a premier Women's National Basketball Association team that based in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. They also happen to be one of the eight original basketball teams that were initially seen in action in 1997. So book your tickets and catch some great basketball action.
This popular basketball team was formerly the sister organization of the renowned Charlotte Hornets. Thereafter Robert L. Johnson, the legendary founder of Black Entertainment Television went on to purchase the team in beginning of the year 2003. Very shortly after he was then announced as the primary owner of an lucrative NBA expansion franchise that happened to be later named famously as the Charlotte Bobcats. Johnson then changed the Sting team colors quickly from the original Hornets' teal and purple to the current Bobcats' blue and orange in the year 2004. They are the sister team to the Charlotte Bobcats.
The Charlotte Sting squad will move into the Bobcats' new home very soon. The Charlotte Bobcats Arena will be their home in 2006. It has been widely speculated that they might soon get a new name. However a newly released and redefined mascot following the same original Sting theme makes that speculation quite unlikely. The recent good news is that Charlotte Sting secured the first pick in the overall WNBA Draft even after narrowly missing the playoffs due to the Draft lottery. This draw is the one which determines the very order of the top selections which are based on the random musings generated dozens of jumping ping pong balls in a lottery machine.
The Charlotte Sting has the most well rounded game in the league. The attack is very well oiled however it was the defense that is one of the many things that went Charlotte's way throughout the last season. The Charlotte Sting incidentally gave up the least points in the whole league, thereby allowing only 2168 total points. Quite remarkably it is that defensive-oriented mentality which has taken deep roots and it has led to the Stings picking the hard-nosed McCarville as a star recruit when they could have easily opted for the talented high scoring off guard Tan White, who happened to went No. 2 to the Indiana Fever. The Stings also acquired Sacramento power forward and highly acclaimed player Tangela Smith and the remarkable Seattle swingman Sheri Sam. Smith actually averaged 11.2 points per game throughout the last season and even Sam is one of just few players in whole league history to record about 2,000 career points. So be there to catch the Charlotte Stings in action this season. Get tickets for yourself and your friends and enjoy some riveting basketball.
