Get ready to catch some truly electrifying basketball action with tickets to see the smoking Detroit Shock own the court! The story of the Shock so far is an incredible one of a team that went from absolute bottom of the barrel to WNBA champions in the amazing time span of one year. Their story is one of hard work, grit and guts and the determination that can only be seen in the eyes of true champions.
The Detroit Shock is part of the Women's National Basketball Association and is based in Detroit Michigan. Their uniforms are white with black and blue and their mascot is named Zap. The team first hit the courts in 1998 as one of the very first expansion teams of the WNBA.
Initially the Shock game plan was to bring in an equal mix of experienced and rookie players to establish a firm foundation for the team. This tactic worked well into their initial seasons, with the team making the playoffs in 1999, no small feat for such a young team. However, this streak did not last and the following years found the Shock steadily decreasing in performance as they failed to find a comfortable groove. The result was that by 2002 the team was at the very bottom of the barrel.
The Shock decided to reassess their situation and make a few necessary changes, the first being a change in coach. Bill Laimbeer was brought onto the scene and he quickly came up with a new game plan which involved the addition of a number of new players. With this in place, Laimbeer predicted that the Shock would win the WNBA championships the next year.
Needless to say skeptics were many and vocal as they failed to see how a team that was pretty comfortably roosted at the very bottom could make it to the middle, much less the very top. But that is just what they did. In 2003, the Shock stunned the entire WNBA world by fiercely clawing its way up from the bottom of the barrel to clinch the WNBA championship title that very year. They beat the Los Angeles Sparks in a nail biting game that ended 83-78. That game has since gone down in history as drawing the largest single crowd that the WNBA has ever seen. The Shock also made history as the second Eastern Conference team in history to win the championship and perhaps a shade more importantly, they became the first team in the history of the WNBA to go from last to first in the space of a single year.
It's bound to be some slam-dunkin' basketball action at its very best so don't miss it. Get to your online ticket vendor today and order your tickets to see the Detroit Shock live in action!
