If you are ready to catch some mind-blowing football action from one of the most promising young teams on the circuit today, then you need to get your tickets to see the Arkansas State Indians play live on the field. The Indians are the football team affiliated with the athletics program of Arkansas State University. Their team colors are scarlet and black and date back to the University's very first football game way back in 1911. The colors first made their official appearance on a pennant. Indians games are also times when one can hear some of the popular chants and songs of the team. These include 'Hail to ASU' which was written by Dr. Harold Manor, formerly head of the College of Fine Arts. Other songs include Cherokee by Ray Noble and The ASU Fight Song written by George Hodge of Marked Tree. The team is currently in the process of changing its mascot as the NCAA has now passed a new ruling prohibiting the use of Native American names in their league.

The Indians have often been regarded as the big little team, the team of surprises. Like a little firecracker, the Indians have immense potential and power which always comes with a bang, often taking the opposite side unawares. The Indians are also a team that is extremely unpredictable, almost always proving the sporting gurus wrong when it comes to predicting future plays and outcomes.

In 1970, the team was the national champion after defeating Central Missouri State University in a game played in the Pecan Bowl during a season where the Indians could boast of an undefeated 11-0 season. Last year, the Indians were the representatives of the Sun Belt Conference at the New Orleans Bowl, where they were ultimately defeated by Southern Mississippi.

This entry into the New Orleans Bowl was the first since their appearance in the Pecan Bowl in 1970. The Indians surprised everyone by tying for the league championships and winning the tie-breaker, thus advancing to the New Orleans Bowl. Even though they finally lost, the team is extremely happy with their performance- though a repeat of this kind of play in the coming season may be a bit of a stretch, the Indians are no doubt poised for big things in the future.
