If you can hear the thunder of a battle zone echoing in the distance, then that means it's time to get your tickets to see the Army Black Knights as they come to wage war on the football field. A team with an impressive football history, the Knights is a team that always puts up a good fight and plays some of the most spirited and inspiring football on the field. If you got tickets to see the Knights play, you got tickets to see one hell of a football game!
Affiliated with the United States Military Academy's athletic program, the Knights are traditionally known as The Black Knights of the Hudson, though now they are popularly known as the Army Black Knights. Their mascot is a mule. Football was started up in the academy in 1890, thanks to the efforts of Dennis Mahan Michie who also managed, coached and organized the first ever army football team. The official Knights arena is named in his honor, Michie Stadium.
As a team, the Knights were once considered to be one of the foremost football teams in the country, especially under the coaching of legend Earl Blaik. Blaik guided the Knights to consecutive national championship wins and also helped produce three Heismann Trophy winners; Pete Dawkings, Doc Blanchard and Glenn Woodward Davis. The football field in Michie Stadium is now named after him.
The Knights have well-known rivalries between the Air Force and more importantly the Navy. All three academies are pitted against each other for the Commander-in-Chief Trophy but the more intense games are the ones that pit the Army against the Navy in what is known as the Army-Navy game. At one time, the importance of winning this game was almost a matter of national importance! However today, college football has become nothing more than a training field for the NFL and given the high level of academic and physical requirements that the academies demand, the competitiveness of the academies on the playing field has reduced.
But that certainly doesn't mean their enthusiasm has diminished and this has been a huge draw for fans for the Army-Navy games, particularly on an emotional level. Unlike other college football players, many of these guys will never have a chance at the pros, which means they are purely playing for love of the game. Another emotional factor is that many seniors are often sent to duty soon after, making the Army-Navy match their last game. Currently the Army is behind the Navy by just one game, having 49 wins to its credit.
Don't miss your chance to cheer on the Knights as they take on their rivals with traditional fighting spirit! Get to your online ticket vendor right now and order your tickets to see the Army Black Knights march into some fine football action!
