Golden Flashes refers to the official sports team of Kent State University (KSU). KSU - the third largest university in Ohio - is an institution of higher learning located in Kent, Ohio, United States, which is about 40 miles southeast of Cleveland. Sports team of Kent State University compete in the NCAA's Division I-A, and the Mid-American Conference. The school's most prominent rivalry is with the University of Akron, located just 10 miles away. Kent state incorporates games like: Men's Sports; Baseball, Basketball Cross Country, Football, Golf, Track, Wrestling, and Women's Sports; Basketball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Soccer, Softball, Track, and Volleyball.

The origin of the athlete team of Kent State can be traced back to 1919, when KSU Marching Band was established by Music Department Director, Ms. Ann Maud Shamel, followed by the formation of The KSU Alumni Band. The MGF celebrates its 80th Anniversary with the largest band in KSU history in 1999.

Each year's Varsity "K" Hall of Fame inductees are honored at a special banquet during the basketball season. Hall of Fame members are permanently enshrined in the Varsity "K" Hall of Fame.
