Memphis squad is coming up with many events in coming days. Book your ticket today to watch the matches. Memphis tigers has manythings for it audience and fans. Enjoy all such matches.Memphis Tigers is the official athlete team of the University of Memphis. In 1912 when Memphis University first fielded a football team, the squad didn't have any nickname. Later in 1914, during a student parade event, several students shouted, “We fight like tigers”. This in turn gave forth the name Memphis Tigers.

Although newspapers continued to use “Normals” or the “ Blue and Gray” while referring to Memphis University athlete team, the nickname “tigers” appealed the best. In the late 1920s, downtown newspapers and student publications started referring the athlete team as the “ teachers or “tutors”.But finally in 1939 “ tigers” was adopted as the official nickname of the University of Memphis.

Bengal Tiger was the sideline mascot of the Memphis team for around 23 years. In 1972 the first tiger purchased by the Highland Hundred (football booster group) lived for 20 years and was put at the Memphis zoo. The Highland Hundred officially presented TOM to the University on November 11, 1972. The current mascot is TOM II came to the University in the fall of 1992.Once there was a contest to name the mascot. With 2,500 entries came in to a committee, the judges reduced the list to Shane and TOM. TOM won.

Royal Blue and Gray were the official color of the team in the early 1990s. The colors were chosen to show togetherness among all students. The official logo of the tea was designed by Craig Thompson, from Disciple Design in Memphis, TN. The original logo MSU shows a leaping tiger coming out from behind the letters.
