Get ready to see some of the smoothest, sleekest college football action on the field today with tickets to see the Pittsburgh Panthers tear up the turf live! The Panthers are all set to rake up an exciting season this year, eager to set things right after their close but ultimately losing season from last year. With a number of big talents loaded onto the team and Coach Wannstedt making a few changes, the Panthers look all set to being in a winning season and possibly bringing in some big wins this time.
The Pittburgh Panthers football team is affiliated to the University of Pittsburgh's athletics team. The team colors are blue and gold and the Panthers recently moved to their new home stadium Heinz Field from their longtime playing field Pitt Stadium that was built in the 1920s. The new Heinz field which officially came into use in 2001 is an NFL-grade field grass turf and is perfectly suited for a team like the Panthers to work on their game.
Panthers football has been called legendary by many football fans and with fifteen national titles to their name, legendary isn't such a bad choice of words. Of these 15 wins, five have been unanimous National championship wins while the others have been shared. Panthers football was probably at its height in the seventies and eighties and today, current coach Dave Wannstedt is looking to regain that past glory. After all, the Panthers have a tradition of breaking barriers and putting forth some of the best talent in NFL football. Former Panthers players in the NFL include Larry Fitzgerald, Kevan Barlow and Curtis Martin. The Panthers also have the distinction of being the first team to break the color barrier in a bowl game and field an African-American player Bobby Grier in 1956.
So exactly how poised are the Panthers for this season? Are they ready to set the record straight? No doubt, their last season's record still smarts somewhat for the team and has caused them to focus more on putting in a winning season this year. To be fair, the current team is still a little green and has yet to fully blossom under Coach Wannstedt's hand- no doubt this season will see the Panthers performing at their full potential.
Still, Coach Wannstedt feels there is always room for improvement- though he was happy with their performance during the spring drills, only time will tell if this momentum will carry through to the fall season. However with an incredibly promising line up and Coach Wannstedt's extremely focused game plan, there is little doubt that the Panthers will be making an impression this year.
