They are a team on the rise, a team on the move, a team that is putting more experienced teams to shame with their winning moves and tackles that have left a number of teams stunned. This is none other than the South Florida Bulls and you haven't seen real college football until you've seen these guys play. The team is very young and yet they have managed to establish themselves as a strong force to contend with on the college football circuit, earning a number of bowl entries and looking to make some big wins, particularly this season.
The South Florida Bulls football team is part of the athletics program at the University of South Florida. Its colors are green and gold and its mascot is a bull named Rocky. Their recent logo, which is known as the Iconic Bull has been hugely popular among fans and students. Perhaps the brightest part of the athletics program at the University of South Florida is its football program. Compared to other football teams that are over a hundred years old, the Bulls are much, much younger, starting out as an independent team in 1997. In that short span of time, the Bulls have proved themselves to be one of the most powerful teams on the circuit and the football program itself is being looked to as a model for other schools.
The Bulls have had an incredible run of football so far and have advanced extremely quickly through the Big East Conference. One of the benefits of this has been the ability to renovate and update its facilities. Much of the success of the Bulls lies with Coach Leavitt who has molded the Bulls into a model team and a winning one at that. Last year the Bulls gained a milestone of sorts with their first ever AP college football votes after the team totaled the University of Louisville- the win also marked their first win against a Top Ten team and a Big East rival. The Bulls also set a record last year by gaining a bowl game entry- the game marked the 100th match of the Bulls, an unmatched accomplishment in NCAA Division1-A history.
The Bulls may have ended the last season with three losses but there is still much to look forward to and accomplish in the next season. Coach Leavitt will first have to look to his quarterback situation which was a bit shaky. Fans and players will have to wait through the summer and fall practices before the Coach makes his decision, as he is keeping all his options open.
