The prestigious Tennessee Technological University is popularly called the Tennessee Tech. It is an accredited and reputed public university located in the renowned Cookeville area in Tennessee. It incidentally is a small city which is nearly seventy miles of Nashville in the east. It was originally known as the Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. The University places much emphasis on quality undergraduate education in numerous fields related to streams like engineering and technology. Apart from these degrees in education, study of liberal arts, agriculture and other fields of study can also be pursued at this renowned university.
The University also has graduate offerings in the fields of engineering, business and the liberal arts. The University is administered by the Tennessee Board of Regents. The Golden Eagles is the named to the Tennessee Tech’s athletic teams. It was chosen by majority vote in the year 1925 over other equally appealing names like the Mountain Eagles and Mountaineers. The said name is generally believed to have been greatly inspired by four majestic golden eagles that were quite often seen flying over the area around the campus during the early days of the University. The Golden Eagles has a rich tradition on the football field. It has produced wonderful players in the past and the current lineup can boast of having one of the best lineups in NCAA division. Their coaching team has also been newly reorganized. The famous former record-setting Golden Eagle quarterback; the highly talented Grant Swallows is among the newest addition that has been made to Tennessee Tech football coaching staff. The current head coach Doug Malone has also been working quite hard with the team to improve its overall strength. In the recent years the team has produced some great players. It includes the likes of Brett Vavra; Tennessee Tech senior linebacker who has also been named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week.
