Texas Christian University popularly known as TCU is a well known university in the north Texas DFW area. It is a private and co educational university situated at Fort Worth, Texas TCU and is affiliated to, but not actually governed by, the Christian Church. The East Texas brothers Randolph and Addison Clark, along with their father Joseph A. Clark, founded this university in 1873, what was then known as the AddRan Male & Female College. This was after the brothers had returned to their homes from service in the battle among the States. The name AddRan was a contraction of the two brothers' names. AddRan College (TCU) was among the first co educational institutions of higher education located west of the Mississippi River, this was a progressive step at a time when merely 15% of the national college enrollment was female and almost all of them were enrolled at women's colleges.
The university is well known in the province for both its academic and co curricular achievements. The university has the distinction of producing some famous people in varied fields. The university’s sports department is very much popular and has the distinction of providing the students some superb facilities for their growth as potential athletes and sports men/ women. The team’s mascot is the "horned frog" and so the university team is also known as the horned frogs. The official colors of the university are purple and white.
The infrastructure facilities provided on campus include some excellent stadiums like Amon G. Carter Stadium, Lupton Stadium for baseball, Bayard H.Friedman Center for tennis, Daniel Meyer Coliseum Ed, Rae Schollmaier Basketball Complex, Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, Lowdon Track and Field Complex, John J. Justin Athletic Center. Apart from these the university boasts of facilities for sports like Swimming and Diving, Volleyball etc.
The university’s department of Intercollegiate Athletics focuses specifically on the well being of the student athlete, it provides division 1A programs for both men and women for which the participants have a flourishing competitive experience. Among many of its constituents it develops support for the university.
The department is committed to the principles and philosophy of the university, NCAA, and the Mountain West Conference. In addition to that the department is committed to make available equitable opportunities for all student athletes and personnel, counting the women and minorities. TCU competes in NCAA, the National Collegiate Athletic Association for sports as an associate of the Mountain West Conference in the Division I (I-A in football).
The horned Frogs have been going very good till now and recently finished the season 11-1 on the whole and 8-0 in conference to succeed at the Mountain West Championship.
