If you are looking for some truly cutting edge hockey from one of the most popular teams in the NHL, then look no further than getting tickets to see the Buffalo Sabres playing live. The Sabres have been involved on some of the most dramatic moments in NHL history and have also harbored some of its greatest players. Though they have yet to clinch a Stanley Cup win, the Sabres have consistently made the playoffs and made a winning effort to gain the Cup every time.

The Buffalo Sabres are based in Buffalo New York and their colors are red, sliver and white. The name Sabres was chosen as the sabre is often seen as a weapon that is only carried by leaders. Buffalo was already known to be a winner when it came to minor league hockey and now the time had come to prove themselves in the big leagues. The Sabres hit the NHL league during the 1970-1971 season with the added asset of Gilbert Perreault in tow- though the team would not make the finals, Perreault took 38 goals in his rookie season.

Soon a number of other French-Canadian players joined namely Rene Robert and Rick Martin. This line- up would be known as the French Connection and would become one of the most dominating factors in Sabres hockey. By the 1972-1973 season the team made the playoffs and though they lost in the quarterfinals, the fans began to chant 'Thank you Sabres' in what has since gone down as one of the greatest moments in Sabre history.

The Sabres reached the Stanley Cup finals during the 1974-1975 season and played the famous Fog Game, during which the abnormal heat of that year made the fog so thick that the spectators couldn't see parts of the game. Also a bat was seen flying across the rink and killed by a Sabres player-this is the only time an animal was killed directly by a player during an NHL game. The eighties did not see the Sabres performing too well, with the team hitting a low with an NHL worst record in 1986-1987. But the nineties saw a number of new players entering the fray, the most prominent being goalie Dominik Hasek who has since been called one of the best goalies in history.

The millennium saw a number of new and talented players hitting the ice and proving themselves and the team got off to a smashing start last season. They set a number of team records and defeated a number of top teams. The Sabres finished with a much better season than expected and Coach Ruff was given the Coach of the Year award.
