It's time to watch one of the hottest teams in the NHL set the ice on fire with their blazing brand of stellar hockey- come get your tickets to see the Calgary Flames live in action. The Flames have always been a proud team and they have always had much to be proud of. They have snagged the Stanley Cup and have always been a consistent force to contend with in the playoffs.
The Calgary Flames originally belonged to Atlanta. The NHL had become embroiled in a heated strike against the World Hockey Association and as a result franchises were given to unlikely places like Atlanta and Long Island. Surprisingly, the Atlanta Flames proved to be a very sound team but shaky finances ultimately caused the team to be sold to a group of businessmen from Calgary. The team has been locally owned since 1982.
In their first year on Canadian ice, the Flames made it to the playoffs and won the first two series, but that would not be repeated for a while. The early eighties saw the Flames bringing in losing records and so a number of new moves were initiated to build a stronger team. The Flames were one of the first teams to draw talent from US colleges as well as from the Soviet Union. Though the team never became strong enough to beat their rivals the Edmonton Oilers at that time, they had built a solid core and would be a force to reckon with in the late eighties and early nineties.
The Flames finally posted a Stanley Cup win in 1989 despite the trading of young superstar Brett Hull just a year before. That same year, the Flames would sign their first Soviet players, thus opening the doors for more European players to enter the NHL. By the nineties however, the Flames fell into a slump and missed the playoffs in 1992, the first time since their time in Atlanta. It would only be in 2004 that the Flames would be able to regain their lost glory, becoming the first Canadian team to enter the Stanley Cup finals in a decade. With the backing of an entire country behind them, the Flames played hard though they eventually lost.
During that time, Calgary became the scene of an almost non-stop party on a strip known as the Red Mile, which became distinguished by topless women flashing from cars and a good amount of drinking. The crowds were pretty well behaved, especially in comparison to the chaos that would ensue in Edmonton in 2006.
The Flames are all set to set the ice on fire so make sure you're there to watch it all happen. Contact your online ticket vendor now and order your tickets to see the Calgary Flames.
