It's time to get blown away by some of the most explosive hockey action you will see on the rinks this season with tickets to see the Carolina Hurricanes blow the competition away live! The Hurricanes have comfortably established themselves as the big surprise, the team that was least likely to make an impression and then went on to win the Stanley Cup.

The Carolina Hurricanes are currently based in Raleigh, North Carolina and are the only major league professional sports team that the city has. Their colors are red, black, white and sliver and their mascot is Stormy the Ice Hog. The Hurricanes take their name after an active hurricane season that spawned one hurricane that hit the city directly. The Hurricanes share rivalries with the Buffalo Sabres, the Atlanta Thrashers, the Washington Capitals and the New Jersey Devils.

The team itself was born in 1971 but was originally known as the New England Whalers. Originally part of the WHA, the Whalers were admitted into the NHL because they were a stable team but they failed to find their footing quickly, raking in only three winning seasons. In 1997, the team was shifted to North Carolina and a number of changes took place, including change in team colors and name.

After some initial hiccoughs and stumbles, the team managed to find their groove, despite losing a team member in a tragic accident and having troubles with their stadium. Despite this, the team was still not bringing in the fans, since as many saw it Carolina was not a place that was used to hockey. However all that changed in the new millennium when the team entered the playoffs. They played so hard that in spite of their loss, the fans gave them a standing ovation- hockey had finally come to Carolina.

In 2002 the Hurricanes wowed the NHL, playing a well-fought battle in the finals that many deem as one of the best finals in Stanley Cup history. It was by far the Hurricanes' best season yet but the team were not about to stop there. After a dip in performance and the 2004-2005 lockout, the team came back with a bang. Attendance increased, the team chalked up an exemplary winning season and in 2006, the icing on the cake came when they won the Stanley Cup for the very first time. For a team that had very few fans at the beginning, the Hurricanes can now boast of one of the noisiest fans in the NHL called the Caniacs who have since adopted the phrase Redneck Hockey.
