Grab your tickets to see one of the brightest stars on the NHL rinks today- grab your tickets to see the Dallas Stars live in action. Despite being shuttled around a number of times and having to endure some painful financial situations, the Stars have proved that no matter what circumstances they are in, they are always winners, no matter what.
The Stars are based in Dallas Texas and have the team colors of black, gold and green. The team's traditional rivals are the San Jose Sharks, the Edmonton Oilers, the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. The team has won two conference championships and one Stanley Cup championship.
The Stars started out in 1967 as an expansion team known as the Minnesota North Stars. In what would prove to be a legacy of sorts with the team for a time, the Stars performed well on ice and managed to bring in the crowds. However by the mid-seventies, financial problems coupled with some lackluster seasons proved to be the team's undoing. By 1978, the team was sold to the owners of the Cleveland Barons. The Barons were also struggling at the time and the NHL allowed the two franchises to merge. The name was kept but the Stars took the place of the Barons in the Adams division.
Again, the team proved its worth on the ice, mainly due to the fact that the merger had brought a number of talented players together on the same team. The result was that the Stars made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1981 and managed to keep the box offices busy as well. However, by the nineties the Stars were in a sticky spot yet again, with audience attendance dwindling and no good arena to play in. This prompted another move which was rejected and the Stars found themselves in a bind that would ultimately dissolve the merger that had taken place years ago. Controversy and poor attendance dogged the team even more until the team was finally moved to Dallas.
Despite the rash of reservations that ensued about having the team in Texas, the stars soon proved themselves by snagging a Stanley Cup Championship in 1999. They began to make themselves a force to be reckoned with on the ice and also won a number of trophies and titles to prove their worth. The Stars' defense in particular is notably exemplary, with players like Jere Lehtinen and Sergei Zubov being nominated for a number of awards for their work.
