It's time to see how the real champions battle it out on the ice with tickets to see the Detroit Redwings live in some stellar hockey action. The Red Wings have already firmly established themselves as a team of champions with a mind-boggling ten Stanley Cup wins to their name. Now into the new millennium the Red Wings show no sign of slowing down and seem all set to chalk up yet another win in the coming season.

The Detroit Red Wings are based in Detroit, Michigan and sport the colors red and white. The team got its start in 1925 when a deal was struck to start an expansion team using players from the most successful team at that time, the Victoria Cougars. They adopted the name the Detroit Cougars and made it to the playoffs in 1929 but would play poorly for a number of years. In 1930 they had changed their name to the Falcons but the name-change did little to alter their play and they wound up bottom of the barrel yet again.

In 1932 the team changed hands and was renamed the Red Wings- this time, it looked like the name change had finally done the trick. By 1934 the team found themselves in the playoffs for the first time and would chalk up their first Stanley Cup win in 1936. The team would reiterate their prowess as a hockey powerhouse with another win the following year. But things would dip in the next season, with the Red Wings struggling and coming in last. After a bit of reshuffling, the team was back on track and became an incredibly strong team during the forties. This had a lot to do with the appearance of one of the best players in history Gordie Howe and a play that would go on to be known as the Production Line, which became one of the best NHL lines in history.

The fifties saw the Red Wings in top form and they had their fifth Stanley Cup win in 1952. However the team took a dip in the coming years and by 1959, the Red Wings missed the playoffs for the first time in 21 years. Despite a short phase of rejuvenated play, the team slumped again in the sixties and would not be able to shake this streak for 20 years. The eighties really saw the Red Wings making a come back with the help of some talented young players and some smart trades that only added to the strength of the team. By 1996-1997 the team were comfortably back in the Stanley Cup saddle and would continue to play strongly, chalking up another win in 2002.
