It's time to grab your tickets to see one of the fiercest teams on the NHL circuit today, a team that has stunned their opponents with their surprisingly strong plays and talented players that have been giving far more established teams a royal run for their money. They have been named aptly, as they are agile and strong, pouncing when you least expect it and never going down without a good, hard fight.

The Predators are based in Nashville Tennessee and wear the colors silver, gold and navy blue. Their mascot is a saber-toothed animal called Gnash, which is a play on the first syllable of their home city's name. The team takes its name from an actual cat that has been extinct for over ten thousand years. A fossil of this saber-tooth cat was found in a cave in Nashville and is only the fifth of its kind that has been found. The Predators share a rivalry with the St. Louis Blues, the Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Predators officially hit the ice in 1998 and played their first game against the Florida Panthers who took the game 1-0. The Predators bounced back almost immediately, taking their next game and their first win just three nights later as they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes. The Predators continued to play consistently and made the playoffs in the 2003-2004 season. They were up against one of the strongest teams in the league, the Red Wings, but the Predators did not go down easily, giving the Red Wings six very hard-fought games. The following season the Predators improved even more, setting an NHL record by winning their first four games by one goal. They also finished the season with an NHL best record at home with a final tally of 32-8-1.

Another memorable aspect of the Predators is a rather smelly tradition that has been started by the fans, rivaling the Red Wings' octopus tradition. This consists of throwing a catfish onto the ice, usually after the Predators have scored their first goal. Ironically enough, this first started during the team's game against the Red Wings. The Predators won the game and the tradition has become a regular feature ever since. The fish are usually kept on the person, since security does not frisk fans when they enter the arena. Though fish-tossers have been escorted out of the stadium, it hasn't dulled the tradition one bit. In fact, the Predators have a fan called Catfish Kenny who shot to fame after calmly tossing a catfish onto the Red Wings home rink even though the Predators were losing.
