It's time to get your tickets to see a real NHL powerhouse in action, a team that has consistently been at the top of the heap, weathering even a stormy, dark curse to come up Stanley Cup Champions no less than four times. Always an aggressive team to encounter on the ice, the Rangers guarantees a good game, whether they are winning in style or making their opponent work hard for their victory.
The Rangers are based in New York City and sport the colors blue, white and red. The Rangers were one of the Original Six in the NHL franchises. The team shares rivalries with the Boston Bruins, the Philadelphia Flyers, the New Jersey Devils and most notably with the New York Islanders. Since both the Islanders and the Rangers are part of the same division, the two teams often encounter each other in rousing matches that always add more fuel to the rivalry.
The Rangers hit the ice in the 1926-1927 season and played way beyond the expectations of everyone. They were originally known as the New York Americans but the media picked up on the first name of the manager at the time, Tex and coined the phrase 'Tex's Rangers'- the name stuck. The Rangers began on the right foot, picking up some great players and putting on a great performance on the ice. Till date, the Rangers continue to be the most successful expansion team in the NHL.
In their second season, the Rangers shocked the pro hockey world by snagging a Stanley Cup win- the team would do is again in the early thirties but by the forties things began to fall apart. Many refer to the ensuing stretch of lackluster playing and slump to the Curse of 1940- there are two stories as to how this curse came about. One states that the management burnt the mortgage to Madison Square Garden in the bowl of the Stanley Cup. Others state it was propagated by Mervyn Red Dutton on the collapse of the New York Americans team franchise.
Whatever the case, it wouldn't be until the nineties that the Rangers would touch the Stanley Cup again. This time the Rangers pulled it off thanks to players like Mark Messier and Brian Leetch. Messier in particular gave one of the best performances in sports history at that time. By the new millennium the Rangers had garnered a lot of new star power and began to rebuild the team- though they were expected to bring in a poor season during 2005-2006, the Rangers finished with one of their best seasons yet.Don't miss your chance to catch the Rangers live on the ice- get to your online ticket vendor now and order your tickets to see the New York Rangers live.
