The San Jose Sharks are a fiercely popular and very well known professional ice hockey team based at San Jose, California. The sharks play in the National Hockey League (NHL). These Sharks, by the side of the famous Charlotte Hornets of the NBA, are credited with popularizing teal as a specific color for American sports teams.

Even though northern California was never considered a particularly fruitful hockey market, the NHL's well known 1967-68 expansion had to include a Bay Area team, this was because the terms of the new television agreement with the media partner CBS called for two of the latest teams to be located at California. Therefore, the Oakland Seals came up as one of the six expansion teams added, they were however a failure both on the ice and at the gate. After some stints of many months like changing names and merging with other teams and changing locations did not bring any fruit full result the final team was moved to San Jose and named San Jose sharks.

Not to forget about mentioning that five players from San Jose sharks made it to the 2006 Winter Olympics held at Turin, Italy. These five SJ Sharks players were, Joe Thornton, Ville Nieminen, Evgeni Nabokov, Marcel Goc, and Christian Ehrhoff who played for their own countries in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Namely Thornton played for Canada, Nieminen for Finland, Nabokov played for Russia, and Goc and Ehrhoff for Germany.

The Sharks have started the 2005 06 season slowly but have caught up of late. Some fine players like Vincent Damphousse, Mike Rathje, Mike Ricci, Todd Harvey and Marshall were not in the team anymore, and thus the team had a hard time. On February 7, 2006, the Sharks managed to sign two of their brightest and young stars, apparently securing their own future. Namely these stars are Jonathan Cheechoo, who was signed to a 5 year contract worth US $ 15 million and secondly the 30 year old Evgeni Nabokov, the famous 2000-01 Calder Trophy winner, and was signed for a 4 year deal worth US$21.5 million. This line of Ekman- J.Thornton- Cheechoo is one of the best lines in the NHL at present.

At the recently held 2006 NHL Awards Show at Vancouver in The Centre for Performing Arts, Joe Thornton was conferred the Hart Trophy as the league's Most precious Player. This was due to his lead in terms of the points, 125 points to be more precise, and the most ever accrued by a player playing for two teams in the same season.

The team has the record of being winner to many awards and trophies. To name a few the Pacific Division twice, the Hart Memorial Trophy once, Joe Thornton trophy once
And Art Ross Trophy once. This list is endless. Apart from this the team also boasts of some very fine performances and achievements accomplished by its players. So book your tickets now! Online booking also available.
