Get your tickets to see the darkest comedy of the season, a hilarious look at the official day from Hell as experienced by a man that acted like he was from Hell- it's time to get your tickets to see Simon Gray's play Butley. This play expertly takes the most tragic day that could have happened and brings out the comedy of it, in the process giving the audience an in-depth look at the protagonist and what actually lurks beneath his tough, dark exterior.

Butley is not a nice man- a cynical, sarcastic professor of English Literature, Butely appears to be a person who has very much dug his own pit and now passes his time by sitting in it, cursing and mocking anyone who passes by. Butley is mean yes but he is witty and his sharp intelligence shines through in every word he says, thus creating a charm that is revolting yet attractive. One is immediately intrigued by this man and what really makes him tick.

Despite his fatalistic notions of his own life, Butley enjoys his life and the way he has misspent it- after all, he has an adoring male lover called Joey, an estranged wife and a colleague who is so sub-standard it makes Butley nauseous. Everything seems to be going swimmingly enough until one day when everything falls around him- Joey leaves him for a very common kind of man, his wife remarries someone that Butley hates and his substandard colleague gets something published while Butley doesn't. Butely retaliates by throwing his razor sharp jibes and remarks at anyone who is around him, thus revealing a rather bankrupt human being, an epitome of wasted and embittered brilliance.

The play is planning to open sometime in the near future with the brilliant Nathan Lane playing the lead, a role that was formerly played to perfection by Alan Bates in both the original Broadway production and the movie. It's Broadway theater at its caustic best so don't miss out! Contact your online ticket vendor and order your tickets to see Butely today!
