The mere mention of World War 1, bring to your mind emotions like patriotism, fear, and depression, will to fight and die alike. However all emotions can be subdued under a bent of effortless humor which does away all such feelings in your head or heart. This is exactly one of the feelings you will experience watching the play canvas-falcons. The play is humorous and heartbreaking at the same time. It is a musical about the story of American volunteers in World War 1.

Canvas-falcon is the story of four American citizens who voluntarily come up to join First World War. These four do this to escape their fate but destiny has other plans for them. Now three of them go on to become pilots for the Royal Canadian flying corps and so are stationed at Canada and one of them becomes a Red Cross volunteer nurse's aid. What happens to them? You will have to watch for yourself!

Although the story is a piece of fiction the historical events are rightly organized. This shows the amount of research that has gone into the making of the play. The play portrays many historical and dramatic elements meticulously. The noteworthy point in the play is the inclusion of its humor. The manner in which the dramatic and heartbreaking story is told with a great deal of humor and fun is praiseworthy. Another integral part of the play worth mentioning is its songs. The play features an original score of thirteen songs. The score is an original work composed of timeless melodies and classical instrumentation.

The play is written and directed by Troy Gleeson who is a Hollywood refugee. He came to Phoenix Theater as a frustrated person disgusted with the state of theatrical depression he found in the heart of movie town. He then went on to start from scratch i.e. no stars, no corporate oversight and also no hidden agenda. It was troy's mission to ensure that people who come to see his work get their money's worth and this is what exactly he has done in canvas-falcon. This means he has been able to stick to some basics like a good story, a perfect content, and foot tapping original music, superb performances and some sweet songs.

Other people associated with the play are Kandyce Hughes the choreographer, Jessica Thalacker the stage manager, Cheryl Gerle the costume coordinator, Corey Hill the light designer and many more. Among the cast are people like Garrett Van Rooy, Dominic Kidwell, Helen Sanger Pierce, Kristina Rogers, Fred Gerle and others.
