The Daytime Emmy Awards -an award which recognises and honours the talents of those in American daytime television programming. It is the brainchild of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, New York and Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.In the year 1972 programs like "The Doctors" and "General Hospital" were nominated for Outstanding Achievement in a Daytime Drama. The award has been able to gather a lot of public interest since and has been aired on television every year. The slots during and before the award function are used by the advertisers to capture a whole new set of prospective clients. Since the year 1991 the show has moved from a daytime broadcast to a night time aiming to capture a larger audience.

The first time a separate awards function was organised only for the daytime television programming was in the year1974.The Daytime Emmy awards for the year 2006 would be held at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. This is the first year since the award was instituted that the venue has shifted outside New York. The Broadcast of the awards function has a number of fans glued to their television sets anxious to know which of their favourite stars has won the awards in the different categories. In the writer's category also there are several awards which are awarded to Writing for A drama Series, Writing for a Children's series to name a few. The actors are also felicitated with awards in different categories like Lead Actor in a drama series, Lead Actress in a Drama series, Supporting actor/actress in a drama series.
