Death of a Salesman is a play of 1949 by Arthur Miller. It was a very popular play at that time and was a huge success. It has been revived many times over and is still a hot favourite with the theatre going .It was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in the year 1949 and also won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for the Best play in 1949.This drama saw Arthur Miller taste success and was acknowledged as good play writer.

The drama "Death of a Salesman" is the story which centres around the character named Willy Loman who is a salesman with very ambitious plans. He is ambitious to the extent of living in a make believe world. The play deals with the American capitalist mentality of wealth accumulation and measuring success by the amount of wealth one possesses. In the play ,Willy is possessed with achieving wealth and being successful and his whole life revolves round that and he also manages to instil these ideas in his children-Biff and Happy- who in turn out to be failures in life like Willy. The other characters include Willy's wife Linda, his brother Ben, his friend -Charley- who helps Willy during his financial troubles and Charley's son Bernard who is a successful lawyer. The plot revolves round Willy's dreams and fantasies and escapism from reality and how in the end he realizes his mistakes and decides to kill himself so that the family atleast benefits from the insurance money. In the end it is a scene of self -introspection by the rest of the family and how his son Biff decides to get out of the make believe world and come to terms with reality.

The play has been a hit at all places were they have performed and the plot has been dealt with very well. The actors have done full justice to the characters that they play.
