Eden Lane depicts a combination of comedy and drama showing May and her family. The modern day theme of play stresses on the dynamic and dramatic changes in a normal family occurred recently. Characters of the play have been excellent and superb in their performance where appropriate lighting and sound added the more weightage to the play. The character May is lived by Roxanne Hart, who is searching peace in a suburban home and look for a better home environment. She is shifted with her family to a new house outside the city with a hope of betterment to her relations. May expects from the new home and environment to heal up the old unseen wounds.
Every character of the play has got a lingering issue & concerned for its own. May is concerned about her weakening glamor and charm. She has been proved excellent on her role and leading the drama to the height of success. Philip, who is May's husband is buy in his flirtations with young ladies and spirits. Role of Philip is wonderfully played by Francois Giroday. Philip finds the solution of all the problems in gin martinis. He bags audience' warmth and praise by his lively acting and naturalism. Her daughter Ruby ( Sarah Avery) is concerned about the issues with her father & wonderfully communicates. Other characters like Timothy (Peter Paige) playing the role of a gay and his desire to prove himself. He entertains the audience' throughout the play and hits the home run in the end. May's interior designer Alberta, played by Rachel Jacobs, who is feeling cheated by his boyfriend's ill health. Eileen, a neighbor played by Kate McGregor-Stewart, is disturbed because of her personal life and her middle age onslaught.
During the play, at many instances it is felt that the conversations finishes with characters answering the questions that were not asked really. It seems as if all follow the Freudian slips and ego beyond the ears of audience'. The play is about a normal family weaved in the routine personal problems and looking for a mental peace. In other words, a normal family trying to be more normal. At many places, serious things turns into humorous. Though the play keeps the audience' sticked to their seats and environment lively with the comedy and superb acting but the end of the play leaves a question that what's new in being more normal.
