Garfield is world famous character created by Jim Davis. It was first appeared in a comic strip though most popular as a cartoon comic strip only but also appears in lice shows, theaters and concerts. It features the cat Garfield, the pet dog Odie, and their socially cumbersome owner Jon Arbuckle. Garfield has been added in Guinness Book of World Records for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip as it is syndicated in over 2,570 newspapers and journals. The popularity of the strip has led to not only an animated children's cartoon show but also many live shows, plays like A Christmas Garfield and several animated television specials and two feature-length live-action films including a large amount of Garfield-related commodity.
Garfield's birthday is considered to be on June 19, 1978 as it was debuted on this date. This strip created a special place by intruding fun at pet owners and their relationship with their pets. The outburst of fun is poked by portraying the pet as the actual master of the house. In his Character, Garfield is shown facing and struggling with human problems including diets, loathing of Mondays, feelings, boredom, and many more. He is quite efficient in understanding humans and their language. He doesn't talk but gesture like humans only. He communicates with Odie and other animals in "thinking". The supporting characters of Garfield are Odie, a pet dog of Jon, actually belongs to Lyman. Nerman, a cute kitten whom Garfield hates out of jealousy. Garfield's vet Liz and the biggest crush of Jon. Jon's mom, a great cook. And mice, Garfield's playing partner.

Later, his Character was slimmed down with enlarged eyes which further used to be grown bigger with emotions. By 1981, Garfield was shown sometimes walking on his hind feet, showing rear paws drawn inexplicably large. He got his familiar appearance with oval shaped eyes to today's look by middle of 1983.As Garfield was growing better, was walking on two feet, making fun of Jon's stupidity and his inability to develop socially better.
For the last many years, the characters of the along with the situations have been constant witout any major change. Yet, a new twist in the story was given on July 17, 2006 which promised to change Garfield's life forever. It was about spotting Garfield's vet Liz in a restaurant with another date. Though Liz admitted that she actually liked Jon, and the date culminated with a kiss on July 28, that made Jon feel he is worthy of something and had a lovely life. This comic strip was first changed into cartoon special television in 1982, introduced as "Here Comes Garfield". Later, inspired by fame and popularity of Garfield, a live-action movie version of the comic strip, "Garfield: The Movie" was released in the United States on June 11, 2004. Jim Davis was rewarded with the National Cartoonist Society Humor Strip Award for 1981 and 1985, and their Reuben Award for 1989 for this wonderful comic strip and character Garfield.
