Jane Eyre: The Musical is based on the 19th century book of same name by Charlotte Brontë. The musical was created by Paul Gordon who was the composer and lyricist and John Caird wrote the book.

Like the book musical has also able to win the hearts of people receiving lot of appreciation by everyone. In 1995 autumn Jane Eyre had a world premiere in Kansas. Jane Eyre is a story of a strong spirited British Governess Jane Eyre. From her childhood Jane had been through lot of hardships. She lost both her parents at young age and was sent to a charity school having rough atmosphere. She becomes a governess at Thornfield Hall owned by Edward Rochester. She falls in love with his master. Both soon develop a deep love relationship between themselves. However Rochester's dark secrets of the past always disturbs him and threatens their relationship.

Jane Eyre the musical has been created by some very talented people. The composer of the musical Paul Gordon has earlier composed very successful music. Many known and great artists like Smokey Robinson, Amy Grant, Patti LaBell, Bette Midler, and Quincy Jones have recorded his work He is also credited for writing two outstanding pop hits Friends and Lovers and Next Time I Fall in Love. Paul Gordon has garnered lot of positive reviews and awards for his style of composition.

Jane Eyre has many melodies throughout its running. The melodies are played by different characters having different lyrics. They are excellently woven for storytelling. The theme of Jane Eyre is set in the opening song of the musical. The song is used for establishing her past life and at the same time portray the main theme of the
musical which is to suppress all the social barriers and achieve one's dreams.

Jane Eyre also had Broadway performance where the cast included some very talented members like Marla Schaffel as Jane Eyre, Edward Fairfax Rochester by James Barbour, The Gypsy by Marje Bubrosa, Adele the school, girl by Andrea Bowen, Young Jane by Lisa Musser, Richard Mason by Bill Nolte and many more.
Jane Eyre has received many Tony Award nomination for various categories such as for Best Original Score, Best Lighting Design, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Musical. Marla Schaffel who was the Jane Eyre in the Broadway production won two awards for Outstanding Actress, Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk Award.

The musical has not only got award nominations but has been applauded by the press.
