Jekyll & Hyde is a great and fantastic musical which has enjoyed a superb run on Broadway. Jekyll & Hyde is based on a novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson called The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The musical was conceived for stage by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden. Frank Wildhornalso composed the music for it and Leslie Bricusse wrote down the lyrics. Jekyll & Hyde had its first performance on 28th April, 1997 on Broadway. Since 21st March Jekyll & Hyde had 44 preview performances. In its first stage performance
Jekyll & Hyde became a super hit musical. Before closing down on 7th January, 2001 the musical already had 1,543 regular performances. Jekyll & Hyde achieved so much popularity and fame for the simple reason that it explores the basic nature of any person. The good and evil side of an individual. The musical is a story about a middle aged scientist named Dr. Henry Jekyll. The biggest endeavor of Dr. Henry Jekyll throughout his life have been to separate these two natures of a human being. But in the quest he does not receive the help of his colleagues which leads him to experiment his formula on himself. His experiment succeed to creation extent but also give some shocking results. Dr. Henry Jekyll is afflicted by a split personalty disorder. His evil nature comes to fore by a different identity who is named Edward Hyde. Edward Hyde starts killing members of Board of Governors as they had refused to help Dr. Henry Jekyll. On the other hand Jekyll is not able to control Hyde.
The other characters in the show are Emma Carew the fiancée of Dr. Henry Jekyll. In some versions of musical she also called Lisa. John Utterson is the best friend of Jekyll, Sir Danvers father of Emma Carew and Lucy who is a prostitute.
There are many English recordings of Jekyll & Hyde. In 1990 the first concept album was recorded. It had Jekyll and Hyde by Colm Wilkinson and both Lucy and Lisa by Linda Eder.

The second recording was called "complete album". It featured Jekyll and Hyde by Anthony Warlow, Lisa by Carolee Carmello and Lucy by Linda Eder.

The musical has been been played at many venues and cities in United Kingdom and United States of America.
In 1995 the first national tour of Jekyll & Hyde was held. The tour was produced by Theatre Under The Stars, 5th Avenue Musical Theatre and Alley Theatre. The tour which started in 1995 ended in April 1996. The casts for tour was Christiane Noll as Lisa, Lucy by Linda Eder and Jekyll and Hyde by Robert Cuccioli. It played at 28 cities including San Antonio, Nashville, Dallas, Cincinnati, Atlanta, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Sacramento and many more.
