Los Big Names is a one person show by Marga Gomez. It is hilarious and a joyride as Gomez makes a comical depiction of events in her family, her 1960 Latino childhood and her big break in the 1990 flop Sphere.Los Big Names is the story of Gomez's family, it also contains incidents from her childhood in Manhattan. It also looks at the death of her parents just before she achieved the success and fame that they always aspired for. She takes a fling at Hollywood, Latino culture, celebrities, fans and the American obsession for fame and stardom.
Marga achieved her Hollywood break during the Latin Explosion of the 90's. She became famous as a gay comedian and fulfilled the wishes of her parents. She says "I was the first in my family to get a speaking role in a movie. That meant more to us than graduating from high school." But the movie was Barry Levinson's sci-fi flop Sphere which Marga explains "had some problems with the end- and with the middle." But nevertheless, her career took off and she has never looked back.
Miss Gomez has selected director David Schweizer to direct her show, something which shows great confidence in the director. Single or Solo performers are often reluctant to hand over the director's role of anyone other than themselves. The design team consists of Robert Timothy Jarbadan and Shannon Robert Bowen. Jarbadan's music selection is fantastic. Catch this hilarious play, contact your on-line ticket vendor and get the tickets.
